COMMITTEES

LEGAL AID COMMITTEE

This committee consists of lawyers and law students who provide legal aid on a pro bono basis to the marginalized, poor and weaker sections of society. We have a network of bright, agile lawyers spanning through all metropolitan cities of India. We also plan to conduct public hearings and seminars within the prison premises to raise awareness. The committee shall further invite legal luminaries and experts to attend seminars and conferences. They shall participate in Panel discussions, report and policy making as well as recommendation and policy papers.

RESEARCH and EDUCATION COMMITTEE

This committee focuses on providing basic and vocational education to prisoners, juveniles and under trials as well as their families who don’t have access to formal education. This committee shall also engage itself in fact finding missions regarding various tenets of prisoner rights like medical facilities, institutional facilities, long term prisoners, open air prison use etc. and shall publish a newsletter dedicated to the initiative. The newsletter will have a board of editors and a Chief Editor. The members of this committee shall visit events/seminars/conferences/workshops as representatives of Preshti and shall present the said reports of fact-finding missions as well as the newsletter at these events. Report formulation, conducting interviews, researching on the latest news, case laws etc. shall be done by this committee.

BUDGET COMMITTEE

This Committee streamlines the funds and keeps a tab on the budget and fundraising that would be involved in running Preshti. The Committee is also responsible for conduction of fundraising activities as well as sponsorship needs that may arise for the smooth operation of Preshti.

ACTION COMMITTEE

This committee carries out field visits to district/central jails/remand homes/juvenile homes/Special Juvenile Police Units/Counselor cells/ Mahila cells (at district and state level) etc. identifying the various on ground problems such as nutrition/sanitation/medical standards and provide the prisoners with the necessary products through the institutional authorities.
